Arranging flowers from my grandmothers garden for fair atop a step stool was just the beginning. Growing up a field away certainly had its perks and my grandmother's patience with me picking all her flowers is to be commended. As I grew up I enjoyed planting a garden with my grandfather that provided the neighbors with more squash and zinnias than they ever wanted. He would always take time to smell the roses and recall where they came from as we walked along the path to the back veggi patch. I have so many wonderful memories growing up with them close by. My grandma grew and arranged all the flowers for church on Sunday and still does to this day so her yard always has something in bloom. Over the years a few brides requested for her to arrange their flowers and my mother and I had the honor of helping. As I got older and became more experienced I also received a few requests for bridal bouquets from friends. I accepted with nervous excitement eventually doing a weddings solo.
I met David and fell madly in love with him in 2012. In June of 2013 we were married on the coast and the flowers were lovingly arranged primarily by my grandmother. We planted our first small garden, plenty big for the two of us that following spring. In 2015, after a year long house hunt, we bought our very own home. We pondered what to grow on the fallow four acre field in the back. May of 2017 we welcomed our first daughter, Evelyn. Two weeks later we planted our first pumpkin patch. The idea was to plant something we didn't have to spend all year taking care of in an effort to discover if people were willing to stop at our driveway and purchase them without investing too much money into the project. It was a success and my long time farm stand dream began to look a lot more promising. I justified buying more bulbs and seeds than we ever needed by saying I would sell the extras out the bed of my old Bronco. We spent the winter coming up with ideas, doing lots of research, buying even more seeds, and purchasing our very own tractor. Something I never thought would be so difficult was picking a farm name. After a massive limb fell off an old oak narrowly missing numerous things my mother-in-law suggested the name and we went with it. Broken Oak Acres was born and we hope it continues to grow!
